Overview

Under the supervision of the General Services Manager, the General Services Specialist performs professional financial and administrative duties within the General Services division in the Treasury Department.

Responsibilities

  • Process and sort weekly City payroll and accounts payable checks and advices.
  • Review and process garnishments for City personnel.
  • Issue manual checks for rejected funds from various ACH accounts.
  • Utilize online banking to review accounts, process positive pay, and review fraud checks.
  • Process and record transactions related to employee, retiree, and vendor payments.
  • Placing stop payments.
  • Record data in financial spreadsheets and documents.
  • Upload weekly annuity and union deduction reports to appropriate vendors.
  • Report City personnel’s tax withholdings for processing.
  • Strong interaction with City personnel, departments, retirees, and vendors.
  • Strong customer service via in-person, telephone, and email.
  • Periodically provide support for other aspects of the division, as needed.
  • Perform related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • An Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred and may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of required experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong ability to work independently and be highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Capable of monitoring and completing several projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of PeopleSoft FN and PeopleSoft HCM is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team and build strong working relationships across a range of functioning areas.
  • Strong and effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to adapt to changes, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment.

Boston Residency Required
